How do you tap an NFC business card?
To read an NFC business card, hold the card flat and touch the back of your phone to it — NFC antennas are typically in the upper-center of the phone's back. The profile should open in your browser within about one second.
Finding the NFC antenna on your phone
On most Android phones, the NFC antenna runs horizontally across the back panel, roughly in the middle or upper-middle. On iPhones, it's near the top edge. The sweet spot varies by model. If the first attempt doesn't work, slowly move the phone across the card until you feel or see the phone register the tag. Once you've found the right position for your phone model, subsequent taps are instant.
Tap technique for best results
Hold the card flat and stable — don't bend it. Touch the back of the phone to the card and hold it still for about a second. Moving the phone while tapping can interrupt the read. You don't need to press hard — the NFC read is radio frequency, not physical contact. As light a touch as necessary.
What happens after the tap
Your phone may vibrate briefly or show a notification. The browser opens automatically (on iPhone, a banner appears at the top; on Android, the URL opens directly). If nothing happens, your NFC may be off, or the card may be oriented incorrectly. On iPhone, try tapping the top edge rather than the middle.
Do you need NFC turned on to tap a card?
On most Android phones, NFC has to be enabled in settings. On iPhones, NFC background tag reading is always on by default and can't be disabled by the user.
What if tapping doesn't work?
Try: removing your phone case, adjusting the position on the card, ensuring NFC is enabled on Android, or trying a different spot on the card. Very thick cases with metal plates occasionally block the signal.
Does tapping feel different from using Apple Pay?
Yes. Apple Pay terminals usually require Face ID or Touch ID before NFC works. NFC business card tags read passively — no authentication step needed.
