How do I enable NFC on my phone?
On iPhone, NFC is always enabled — nothing to change. On Android, go to Settings → Connections → NFC and toggle it on. The exact menu path varies slightly by manufacturer, but it's always somewhere under Settings.
iPhone: nothing to do
NFC tag reading is built into iOS and runs in the background without any user action. You can't turn it off and don't need to. On iPhone XS and later, just tap the card to the top of your phone while it's awake.
Android: brand-by-brand paths
Samsung Galaxy: Settings → Connections → NFC and contactless payments → toggle NFC on. Google Pixel: Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → NFC → toggle on. OnePlus: Settings → Connectivity → NFC → toggle on. Motorola: Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → NFC. If you can't find it, search 'NFC' in your Settings search bar — every Android has a search function in Settings.
Can I turn NFC off on my Android to save battery?
Yes. NFC uses minimal battery when idle — most battery tests show under 1% daily drain. But if you want to disable it, toggle it off the same way you enabled it.
My phone has an NFC option but the toggle is grayed out — why?
Some Android phones disable NFC during airplane mode. Disable airplane mode first, then toggle NFC on.
How do I know NFC is on and working?
On Android, look for an NFC icon in the status bar (looks like a sideways Wi-Fi symbol). You can also test it by tapping any NFC tag — if the phone reacts, it's working.
