Do Android phones work with NFC cards?
Yes. NFC has been standard on Android phones since about 2012–2014. On Android, NFC must be enabled in Settings, but once enabled, tapping an NFC business card automatically opens the profile in the browser.
Enabling NFC on Android
Go to Settings → Connections (or Network & Internet, depending on your manufacturer) → NFC → toggle on. Some Android phones have NFC enabled by default; others require a manual toggle. Once enabled, it stays on until you turn it off. A small NFC icon may appear in the status bar when NFC is active.
How the tap experience differs from iPhone
On Android, tapping an NFC tag typically causes a vibration and automatically opens the URL in the default browser — usually Chrome. There's no banner to tap, no confirmation step. It's direct and immediate. The NFC antenna location varies by manufacturer: often the center or upper-center of the back panel on Samsung and Google Pixel, sometimes the lower-center on other brands.
Android models to watch for
Budget Android phones (under $100–$150) sometimes omit NFC to cut costs. If you're giving an NFC card to someone with a very low-end phone, check whether NFC is listed in their phone's specs. Mid-range and flagship Android phones from Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Motorola, and others all include NFC.
Where is the NFC chip on Samsung Galaxy phones?
On most Samsung Galaxy phones, the NFC antenna is in the center of the back panel. Align the back of the phone with the card for the best read.
Do Android Go phones support NFC?
Some do, many don't. Android Go is designed for low-cost devices where NFC is often omitted. Check the specific device specs.
Is Android NFC faster than iPhone NFC?
The speeds are comparable — both read in under a second. Android's automatic-open behavior (no banner tap required) feels slightly more instant to users.
